Frequently Asked Questions
So my friends thought I couldn't do it…
Hi, my name is Josh. I am from Brisbane - Australia. My friends bet me 20 cartons of beer, $1000 dollars worth, that I can not make a website reach one billion page views. I am proving them wrong. That is how this page was born.
If you go to internetworldstats.com you will notice there is just over one billion ( 1,000,000,000 ) internet users world wide. I am aware of that, hence I am counting the next best thing. Page Views. I am using a combination of IP and cookie based counting which gets reset every hour to count the page views. My friends Robbo and Wayne agreed that this is fair. So, you can only visit this page once an hour for your visit to count.

1. What is counted as a page view?
If you go to internetworldstats.com you will notice there is just over one billion ( 1,000,000,000 ) internet users world wide.
I am aware of that hence I am counting the next best thing. Page Views. I am using a combination of IP and cookie based counting which gets reset every hour to count the page views. My friends Robbo and Wayne agreed that this is fair. So, you can only visit this page once an hour for your visit to count.
2. What is this page about?
The idea is quite simple actually: to try and make this page the first page of its kind to reach 1 000 000 000 page views. Hence the name "One Billion Views".
If this is achieved, it will be the first time in the history of the internet that a simple page like this with only a counter and bunch of links has reached those giddy heights.
3. How did you come up with the idea?
I had this idea for a while now. The other day I was down at the pub with my mates Robbo and Wayne, deep in one of those insightful pub conversations about the meaning of life, when i blurted out my thoughts about making a plain and simple page that will generate 1 000 000 000 page views.
In between the sneers and laughter of my so called mates :), my brain registered a definitive challenge. They were willing to bet me 20 cartons of Heineken Lager Beer that my little page wont succeed. Being a true blue aussie bloke, how could I turn down a challenge like that? So I sat down behind my trusty computer and set about making this site.
4. Why do you sell advertising space on your page?
I put the ad spaces on the homepage in order to make some revenue and be able to afford the cartons of beer just in case the page does not succeed. $1000 US should do it. The other reason of course is the fact that I have to be able to afford the hosting as well as the extra bandwidth used up as a result of numerous visitors hitting the site.
5. Why should I buy an ad space on your page?
You will have an image and link to your website permanently placed on www.onebillionviews.com for the lifetime of this website which is a guaranteed minimum of 5 years. Your link and alt/title text will also be placed on www.onebillionviews.com/adlist
www.onebillionviews.com is bound to reach the 1 000 000 000 page view mark. Imagine the potential of the sheer number of people viewing your ad? Placing a permanent 50×50 pixel advert on www.onebillionviews.com will only cost you $1.844674407371E+19 US. What is more, a bonus scheme is set up where your ad will appear in a 200×200 and a 100×50 pixel form for a time. To find out more or to place an ad right now click here.
6. Why Heieneken Lager?
The only "expensive" drink my mates Robbo and Wayne could think of in their intoxicated state is the imported Heineken Lager Stubbie (as we Aussies call it).
They thought they'd get me badly by betting me 20 cartons of it. A carton at the going rate costs $53.95 at one of the local shops.
7. How many beers constitute a carton?
A Heineken Lager Stubbies carton is made up of 24 stubbies of beer.
8. How long will the site be online?
This site is guaranteed to stay online for a minimum of 5 years. However, if I get any money from selling ads on the www.onebillionviews.com, I plan to use the money to prolong the duration of the site even further.
9. If you're from Australia, why are your ad spaces sold in US dollars?
With the US dollar being recognized all around the world, it is probably the closest to a global currency we have at the moment. I had to pick one currency so i picked the US dollar. Since paypal is my chosen method of monetary transaction, I believe the currency won't pose a problem to anyone. Paypal offers cool currency exchange services.
